How to Draw Super Mario

Who does not remember that revolutionary platform game, released by Nintendo in the year 1985 that remained at the top for over two decades? Super Mario is officially declared the second most popular game ever! The appearance of the character was as well thought as the other elements of the game and it is one of the most celebrated and replicated cartoon characters today. There are some standard and non-standard procedures to draw Super Mario. Following is a systematic tutorial to help you recreate the magic on your drawing board:

• Inspiration. It is a good idea to refer to an available image, as you may want to import some distinguishing characteristics of Mario. Wide styles of images are available on the internet to pick from.

• Framework of Drawing. The skeletal drawing is largely based upon certain fundamental geometrical shapes. Begin the head portion with a small circle and elongate it at the bottom a bit with the use of an external arc. Within the circle, add two light horizontal lines and one vertical line, cutting through the horizontal ones. The horizontal lines represent a virtual partition of the face to locate the eyes and the nose. The distance between the two lines corresponds to the size of the forehead and the eyes. The position of the vertical line will be based upon the tilt and the view of the face. In the Case of a side view, the line shall be placed more towards the edges. At the later stages, the nose is placed at the intersection of the lines, roughly marking the center of the face. Mario is a pot-bellied cartoon. Therefore, use a larger circle for the body. Draw the hands and legs of approximate thickness as per your reference picture.

• Details. Draw the felt cap first. The cap hides away almost all of the hair of Mario. Now, refine the facial structure, which is visibly square-jawed. Begin adding the facial details, including the eyes, nose, and mustaches. Sketch other details like gloved hands, the fall of the trousers, and shoes. Do not forget to draw the suspenders, which is the signature style of this character.

• Shading and colors. It is recommended to create a color drawing to include all the trademark elements of Super Mario. The shirt and cap are set in bright red, the suspenders are blue, the frontal buttons are yellow, the gloves are white, and the shoes are brown. A prominent logo, featuring 'M' is visible on the front side of the cap. Once You draw black outlines, you're done with the animation!
